Bana Cave Church (Rusudankalma)

The church is located at the turn leading to the village of Peneki, in a cliff massive on the right side of the river gorge, about 40 metres above the road. Erected on a special substructure, this hall-type church is bulit of smoothly finished stone.

At present, the road leading to the church is destroyed. The south facade presrrves two narrow arched windows. The east facade is largely destroyed. The interior constains several traces of mural paintings. There are traces of subsidiary structures on the east and west of the church.

The church is called Rusudankalma by the local community, which allows to link the construction of the church to Queen Rusudan and thus date it to the first half of teh 13th century.
