The six-apsed church, located on the highest elevation of the fortress grounds, overlooked the town  and the Oltisi Tskali River. Once domed, the church now survives only on a plan level. The exterior is surrounded with a thick base adorned with twisted horizontal pattern. It is known that Oltisi Fortress was a residence of Davit III Kuropalates and the round church also appears to be his commission.
