The village of Gurjani, which preserves ruins of a Georgian church, is located near Shatberdi. Surviving fragments include a tall chancel with an apsidal conch and a west cross-arm. Pahrie Bayram has suggested that the church was cross-domed though the distribution of masses and the unproportional ‘square bay’ raised our doubts and allowed us to assume that it is another non-standard church of the transitional period.
