In old Georgian records Kakhi is referred to as Kaki. Patara or Minor Alaverdi, one of the three churches surviving from the numerous buildings located on this site, lies in Topakh, one of the neighbourhoods in Kakhi.

Tradition has it that Minor Alaverdi is ‘a brother of Didi (Greater or Major) Alaverdi of Inner Kakheti’. On 14 September (old style), it hosts Didi Alaverdoba, a great feast with traditions identical with that of Inner Kakhetian Alaverdi.

Patara Alaverdi is a domed church erected on the site of an old basilica with the contributionof the local community in 1888. At present, the dome is damaged and is need of restoration.
