Doliskana Church was built during 954-958 as indicated in a construction inscription on the façade. The church is of an inscribed cross type. There is a semi-circular apse and pastophoria on the east, an annexe on the west, a gallery on the south-west and a compartment on the north-west.

The church is built of medium-sized, roughly hewn stone of different colours. Only the structural parts and the drum of the dome are built of neatly carved blocks.  The dome is embellished with an arcade with ornamented capitals. Doliskana façades are distinguished by a variety of colours and abundance of sculptural reliefs, namely those of the Archangels, the Virgin, the Saviour, Deacon Gabriel and King Sumbat. The stone with a solar clock is missing. Of particular note is the adornment of the south window. A large semi-circular inscription is carved below the floral ornament atop the window. Under the tympanum of the south gallery door is a lapidary inscription.

The chancel preserves the first register of mural paintings (images of the holy fathers) with inscriptions.

The church had a tile roof.
