Ruins of a 9th century church preserve in the north-east of Artanuji Fortress grounds. The church was built in 810-820 by King Ashot Kuropalates who was later buried in the vicinity of the church. This was a hall-type church with an annexe on the north which had another chamber farther to the north. All of these were united by a narthex from the west.

The structure is built of locally quarried whitish-yellowish blocks. The west section of the church is almost completely ruined, and the eastern part preserves at the height of 2-3 metres.
