Now badly ruined, Dort Kilise triconch is an original version of a three-apsed planning composition. Its structure is best visible in external volumes. The east, south and north arms form semi-circular apses of identical size on the plan. The west right-angled arm, which is twice as deep as the apsidal arms, lacks decoration and articulation. It is not divided from the square bay by additional pilasters. According to plan, the interior must have had a simple structure.

Owing to its three-faceted projecting apse Dort Kilisa triconch would have a highly original external structure different from the monuments of this type that have been discovered so far.

Building technique used in the construction of the church provide remarkable evidence for dating. Roughly cut small cube-shaped stones arranged on thick mortar suggest the 8th-9th century. Taking into consideration small dimensions of the church and the simplicity of  its planning and composition, as wellas techtonic characteristics of the interior, it is most plausible that the church was built not later than the end of the 9th century.
